BIO-PLATEAUX

A shared territory

The BIO-PLATEAUX project is co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg Amazon Cooperation Program. It aims at developing the sharing of data, information and experiences on water and biodiversity in aquatic environments between French Guiana, Brazil and Suriname, particularly in the two transboundary basins of the Oiapoque and Maroni rivers.

Signing of the Partnership Agreement between the Ministry of Public Works of Suriname and the International Office for Water for the implementation of Phase II of the BIO-PLATEAUX project

The Ministry of Public Works of Suriname and the International Office for Water(OiEau) signed a partnership agreement on 4 April for the implementation of the BIO-PLATEAUX II project. 

The document was signed by Mrs Laronde, Director of International Cooperation of OiEau, and Mr Kadosoe, Director of Services of the Ministry of Public Works of Suriname, in the presence of Mrs Steenwinkel, Vice-President of the Territorial Collectivity of French Guiana, and Mr Lecante, President of the Water and Biodiversity Committee of French Guiana. 

Young people on both banks of the Oyapock join forces with BIO-PLATEAUX for World Water Day

On the occasion of the World Water Day (22 March 2024), the BIO-PLATEAUX project organised an awareness week on the banks of the Oyapock River from 18 to 22 March 2024. The aim of the event is to highlight the challenges posed by the pollution of the river with waste. This is a major problem shared by both sides of the Oyapock.

Joint mission on the Maroni River basin

A joint mission between the institutions responsible for water resources management in Guyana and Suriname was held in the Maroni River Basin, in the Grand Santi and Stoelmanseiland area from January 29th to February 2nd, 2024.

This field campaign, organized in the framework of the BIO-PLATEAUX initiative, was an opportunity to strengthen links between technical institutions of each country in order to improve coordination and governance of the river basin, with concrete results on three axes:
