Participation of the BIO-PLATEAUX project to the Oiapoque River Council – March 6, 2024

The 6TH Oyapock River Council was held on March 6, 2024 in the Clevelândia Camp, located in the municipality of Oiapoque (Amapa, Brazil).

During the thematic sequence dedicated to the environment, the activities of the BIO-PLATEAUX project were presented jointly by the Brazilian (the State Secretariat for International Relations and Foreign Trade of the State of Amapa- SECRICOMEX and the State Secretariat for the Environment of the State of Amapa – SEMA) and the French partners (the Guyana Water Office - OEG, the International Office for Water (OiEau).

In the presence of the Governor of the State of Amapa, Mr. Clecio Luis, the Vice-President of the Territorial Collectivity of Guyana Ms. Steenwinkel, and the Sub-Prefect of Saint-Georges Mr. Braud, this moment of dialogue with the members of the River Council was the opportunity to highlight:

-the concrete current achievements of the project, for example awareness-raising activities with schools in the river basin on the occasion of World Water Day at the end of March 2024.

-the prefiguration strategy of the Regional Transboundary Basin Organization on the Guiana Shield. Joint preparatory studies will prepare different scenarios to submit to territorial and national authorities, until the COP 30 in Belém (2025).

SECRICOMEX and OiEau also presented the signing of the Partnership Agreement between the two entities, for the implementation of the BIO-PLATEAUX project.
