The BIO-PLATEAUX initiative was promoted at the Joint Commission for Cross-Border Cooperation Brazil-France in Macapa on June 11 and 12. A special opportunity to exchange views on transboundary water resource management issues with high-level French and Brazilian representatives at regional and national level.
The latest reflections water resources governance at the scale of the Oiapoque river basin were discussed by technical stakeholders during a parallel session. Partners from both countries were thus able to exchange experiences in the management of transboundary river basins, which could inspire the case of the Oiapoque river basin.
Then, the results of these exchanges, in the form of a synthetic script, were presented to the respective authorities present at the CMT (especially Mr. Valdez Goes, Minister of Integration and Regional Development, Mr. Clécio Luis, Governor of the State of Amapá, Mr. Gabriel Serville, President of the Territorial Community of Guyana, Mrs. Michèle Ramis, Director for the Americas and the Caribbean of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
The dialogue continues, and the first institutional alternatives to strengthen the governance of transboundary river basins of the Guiana Shield should be studied during the BIO-PLATEAUX Conference in Paramaribo, on October 31st.
