The BIO-PLATEAUX Conference in Paramaribo - Suriname, will be held from 31 October to 02 November 2024 for transboundary dialogue between French Guyana, Brazil and Suriname, in favour of Water and Biodiversity in the Oyapock and Maroni river basins.
« WATER IS A SHIELD » In the cross-border basins of the Guianas, water protects our shared cultural, social and environmental heritage. However, water resources are threatened by strong challenges to tackled, discussed at the Cayenne conference in 2019.
The BIO-PLATEAUX initiative supports regional dialogue to tackle these common challenges, with concrete results in order to:
- get to know each other better
- improve our knowledge of water resources
- raise awareness of transboundary river basin issues
The project is now entering a phase of long-term consolidation, with the joint preparation of a Transboundary Basin Organization, continuing territorial coordination, the production of joint knowledge and the initiative of river basin planning.
In this context, the Paramaribo conference will bring together the institutions, stakeholders and basin populations to discuss the cooperation challenges, and jointly identify concrete responses.
This event will be a milestone in the preparations to create a Regional Transboundary Basin Organization, on the road to Belem COP30 (November 2025).
