Young students from Camopi had an exciting opportunity to discover and learn about their river basin from 8th to 10th May 2023. This educational initiative was a part of the BIO-PLATEAUX project, it aimed at raising awareness about water-related issues.

During these special "water classes," both elementary and middle school students from Camopi took part in various engaging activities. These activities were designed by two associations in French Guiana “La Canopée des Sciences” and “Ocean Science & Logistic” to help them understand the river basin they live in and the water cycle that sustains it. They also had the chance to examine water samples under microscopes, delving into the world of aquatic biodiversity.

The concept of these "water classes" was to empower young minds with knowledge about their environment, including insights into natural water cycle, aquatic life diversity, and the risks associated with pollution or flooding.

A meeting was held with schoolteachers and agents from the French Guiana Amazonian Park. The purpose was to explore further opportunities for raising awareness about environmental issues and to ensure that these valuable educational activities continue and expand in the future.

To support ongoing learning, the participants received logbooks and posters related to Maroni and Oiapoque transboundary river basins, which were prepared under the BIO-PLATEAUX initiative.
